Welcome to MILC
The Montreal Institute for Lactation Consultants (MILC) was first established in 2002 at the request of a group of nurses and a dietician from St Mary’s Hospital Centre in Montreal, Quebec who wanted to become International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC). All passed the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) exam in 2003.
The demand continued and each year since MILC has been offering training programmes for Lactation Consultants. In 2004 the first French programme was offered and now both English and French training programmes are offered. Students who enrol in the programme are from varying backgrounds including nurses, doctors, dieticians, pharmacists, chiropractors, breastfeeding counsellors, etc.
Most students enrol in the MILC courses to prepare for the IBLCE exam and become IBCLC’s, others enrol because they wish to increase their knowledge about lactation and better serve the mothers and babies they care for. If preparing for the IBLCE exam it is important to review the following website http://americas.iblce.org/home.php# and click on becoming an IBCLC.
We look forward to you joining our programme and learning through lactation!
